Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has responded to the backlash that broke out over the addition of Marilyn Manson as support on part of the 2027 «(sic)est Stadium Tour». Root explained that he himself does not deal with the logistics of the band’s tours.
«I stay out of tour stuff and all that», he said. And he added: «I focus on writing and being a guitar player, so forgive my ignorance about who we’re playing shows with. There are other people with much bigger brains who coordinate all of that and honestly I don’t follow new bands or new music».
His response came after a fan expressed his displeasure at Slipknot sharing a stage with Manson, who has faced allegations of sexual abuse from several women. Manson, real name Brian Warner, has denied them and maintains that he has done nothing wrong. His former partner Evan Rachel Wood accused him in 2021 of manipulation and abuse; he responded that these were «horrific distortions of reality» and that his relationships were «always completely consensual».
Thousands of comments were written under Slipknot’s tour post, with some fans saying they will no longer go to shows that include Manson. «I would love to see it, but there’s no way I’m putting my money in Manson’s pocket», one of them wrote, while others called the choice a «huge disappointment».
Manson is scheduled to open the tour at Wembley Stadium in London on 3 July 2027, along with Lorna Shore and Hatebreed. He will also appear with Hatebreed at the shows in Buenos Aires, Santiago and Bogotá in September. At the remaining stops of the tour, among others, Bring Me The Horizon, Acid Bath, Lamb Of God, Polyphia, Motionless In White, Kublai Khan TX, Vended and Loathe appear.
