Fear Factory singer Milo Silvestro has said he deliberately aimed to sound as close as possible to the band’s former frontman Burton C. Bell on the new single «Roboticist».
“`The song, released via Nuclear Blast in late August, is the first recording to feature Silvestro and drummer Pete Webber, who have been in the band’s touring line-up for more than three and a half years. It is also the first single from the band’s next album, the first without Bell.
Speaking to «Impact Metal Channel», Silvestro said that «Roboticist» is the first single from the upcoming record, which will come out at some point next year, and said he is happy to play it live on the European tour, as people seem to love it and accept the band’s new era.
Asked about the album, he said it will probably contain ten tracks. He admitted that a new line-up with a new singer is not always easy for the audience, because many consider the singer the soul of a band, which is why they deliberately tried to keep the sound within the Fear Factory universe.
Silvestro explained that Bell was such an iconic singer, a pioneer of the blend of harsh and melodic vocals, with a recognisable tone, that he and Dino Cazares never thought of changing that sound. As he put it, Dino was interested in him precisely because he was so influenced by Bell that it came naturally to him to sound like him.
According to Silvestro, the album will sound like classic modern Fear Factory, with an air of «Mechanize», «Genexus» and «The Industrialist», but also some fresh elements, as he brought with him his love of effects, coming from electronic music and turntablism, with vocoders, as in his small band in Rome, Dead Channel.
Bell left Fear Factory in 2020 and the 2021 album «Aggression Continuum» was the last with his voice, while Silvestro, an Italian singer, was announced as his replacement in 2023 and Cazares is now the only founding member left.
«Roboticist» was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Damien Rainaud, while its music video was directed by Vincente Cordero.
