Rotting Christ – Khronos | Metal Territory

With «Khronos», released on August 28, 2000 by Century Media, Rotting Christ returned to the heaviness of their early records without leaving behind the gothic elements of the 90s.

The recording took place in March 2000 at Abyss Studios in Sweden, produced by Peter Tägtgren of Hypocrisy, who had also worked with Dimmu Borgir and Immortal; the album’s drums were played by Jan Roger Halvorsen. The title means «time» and, as Sakis Tolis has said, on the cover there are three ancient Greek letters that form the number 666. Among the twelve tracks, «My Sacred Path», «Thou Art Blind» and the cover of Current 93’s «Lucifer Over London» stand out, while after the end of «Glory of Sadness» another instrumental track is hidden.

The year didn’t go smoothly: the promotion ran into an earthquake in Mexico, the North American tour was postponed due to reactions to the band’s name, and half the South American concerts were cancelled when the tour manager disappeared with the advances. In July 2026 Season of Mist reissued the album on double vinyl, along with «Sleep of the Angels».

Our take

It’s the comeback album: faster and angrier than the previous three, without losing the melody. Tägtgren’s production suits it perfectly.
