«Codex Omega» is Septicflesh‘s tenth record. It came out on September 1, 2017 via Season of Mist, runs 47 minutes and on the bonus editions includes the tracks in orchestral version as well.
Country: Greece
Genre: Symphonic death metal
For fans of: Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Nightfall
Production and mix were done by Jens Bogren, with lyrics by Sotiris Vayenas and the music credited to the band. The record continued the line of «Titan», with fewer but tighter compositions and an even stronger symphonic presence, without losing the speed and heaviness of death metal.
Among the tracks stand out «Portrait of a Headless Man», which became a video clip the same year, «Dante’s Inferno», for which a 360-degree video was shot, and «Martyr» in 2018. The record entered the charts at 112 in Belgium, 85 in France and reached 9 on the American Heatseekers chart.
Our take
It’s the record where their recipe reached full maturity: orchestra, choir and death metal in absolute balance. Septicflesh were no longer searching for identity, they had it.
