PRESS RELEASE : The Italian Devoid of Thought return with their new, self-titled album via Avantgarde Music. After five years of touring alongside bands like Artificial Brain and appearances at festivals like Brutal Assault, the act presents its natural evolution after 2021’s “Outer World Graves”. Drawing inspiration from cosmic chaos, entropy and sci-fi horror, the album offers an imposing “wall of sound” full of dissonances and chaotic riffs. The band moves slightly away from purely technical death metal, diving into more psychedelic, dark, but absolutely controlled and barbaric soundscapes.

Tracklist :

  • Panspermic Bio-dome
  • Putrescent Mireborn
  • Chronos
  • Oblivionauts
  • Entheogenic Ritual

REVIEW : Listening to Devoid of Thought’s new work, the mind goes straight to the aesthetic of bands like Ulcerate and Gorguts. The rhythm section of Marek Sollami (bass) and Claudio Invidia (drums) holds the reins flawlessly, putting order into the chaos and giving the guitars the necessary space to build this alien sound with tremolo and dissonances. The vocals are perhaps a little buried in the mix, yet they serve their purpose excellently, while the additions of clean performances, as at the climax of “Oblivionauts”, give an unexpected, explosive intensity that takes the track to the next level.

If I have to find a flaw, it’s the management of tempo and space at certain moments. For example, the 10-minute opener “Panspermic Bio-dome” I feel drags quite a bit with long gaps and monologues, sagging somewhat. On the other hand, the equally 10-minute “Entheogenic Ritual” is a real seminar on how to build intensity and climax through slower passages. Despite its brief overall length (about 30 minutes), the album avoids unnecessary rambling and works as a “slow burner”. It demands its time for you to absorb its layers, but ultimately proves that cosmic death metal chaos can be highly addictive.
