Fimbul Winter are back with a new single and this time they aren’t playing “safe” melodic death metal. “When The Sun Comes Out At Night” is their most aggressive, darkest and most charged work to date, with Johan Lindstrand of The Crown adding an extra dose of savagery to the track. The band, made up of three former members of Amon Amarth, continue to build their own path, far from the past but with a clear connection to their roots.
The track starts without intros: riffs that hit like a storm, drums that leave no room to breathe, and an atmosphere that recalls old Swedish death metal but with modern clarity. Clint Williams and Lindstrand share the vocals, creating a duality that gives the track depth and intensity. It’s one of those collaborations that don’t feel like a “guest appearance”, but a real coexistence.
Lyrically, the single speaks about the loss of stability when reality suddenly becomes too clear. The “awakening” that dissolves whatever you took for granted. It’s not philosophy, it’s experience — and the band conveys it in a way that fits their style perfectly.

Fimbul Winter honor the death metal that gave birth to them, but they don’t stay there. They take their experience from Amon Amarth, unite it with modern production and write music that is heavy, melodic and atmospheric without becoming too “polished”. “What Once Was” in 2025 showed the direction; “Crowned In Ash” continued the course; and now “When The Sun Comes Out At Night” shows the band is stepping up a level.
The production was done at Studio Fluff Vasteras and Witching Hour Audio, with bass by Risa Andersson and mixing/mastering by Marko Tervonen. Katarzyna Urbanek’s cover art ties in with the style of the track: dark, aggressive, but with a heroic shade that fits the track’s final outburst.
Fimbul Winter started from a spontaneous reunion to play Amon Amarth’s 1994 demo. From there a new band was born that doesn’t try to become anyone’s “continuation”. They want to write death metal that has soul, weight and character — and so far they’re succeeding.
