Vengeance Arsenal appear with Spear of Armageddon, a debut that builds a world full of martial aesthetics, epic mood and death metal aggression. The duo, with R.F. at the helm, draws from North American melodic death, speed metal and traditional heavy metal, creating a sound that isn’t a simple imitation of its influences but its own clear identity.
“Horn of Salvation” opens the album with a direct attack: uptempo rhythms, speed metal breaks and a Bolt Thrower‑like martial aura. “Actus Reus” continues with a thrashing gallop that recalls late ’80s aggression, while “Death Remnant” brings the album’s most axe‑swinging style, with riffs that stay in your head.
The title track “Spear of Armageddon” is one of the most distinctive tracks: mid‑tempo march, melodic lines and a feel that recalls the era of Rotting Christ’s Triarchy of the Lost Lovers. Here the band’s heavy metal base shows clearly, dressed in death metal intensity. “Crucible in Dust” works as a Side B stinger, while “Commandment for Truculence” shows a more personal approach, with speed breaks and shuffling verse riffs that stray from the initial influences.
“Prophetslayer” closes the album with a marching pulse and leads that gradually rise, fully revealing Vengeance Arsenal’s identity: death metal with an epic mood, a heavy metal skeleton and melody that never becomes excessive.
The production (Red Lantern Studios / Resonance Sound Studio) is full of grit, clean and sturdy, while Andreas Marschall’s cover art gives the album the image that suits it: martial, dark, imposing. Spear of Armageddon is short — about 32 minutes — but that works in its favor. It doesn’t wear you out, doesn’t lose energy and doesn’t fall into the trap of sameness that often appears in such hybrid styles.
Vengeance Arsenal present a debut that stands firmly on its influences but isn’t trapped by them. An album that hits hard, has character and shows the band has plenty to give next.
