Wormwood are one of the most interesting names in the modern Swedish black metal scene. Their new EP “Å” was released on August 7, 2026 via Black Lodge and bears the subtitle “Contemporary Decay of Stockholm, In Two Parts” — two tracks, around seven minutes each, that explore the contemporary decay of Stockholm.
Country: Sweden
Genre: Black Metal
For fans of: Sarcasm, Shining, Marduk
The listen
The cover shows a woman crying — and the question is why. The video for “Yra|Extas” gives a hint: it’s set in contemporary Stockholm and, inspired by real criminal cases, follows a single mother living on the edges of society who sinks into absolute darkness.
Musically, “Å” is completely different from the cover’s image: Wormwood create a dense atmosphere full of melodies and tempo shifts, balancing aggression and calmer moods equally well. The two tracks — “Yra|Extas” and “Purposeless Geometry” — have room for more serene layers of synths and slow, emotion-filled guitars, which break up the more aggressive passages. The introductory guitar phrase of “Purposeless Geometry” breaks every expectation.
Violence for Wormwood is something complex that isn’t explained with simple answers — and “Å” is a very strong EP from a band that has built a big reputation. A sign that their music is growing so much that it surpasses the band itself. Those who followed the single “Yra|Extas” will find its natural home here — as will those who love the dark sound of the Swedish scene.
