REVIEW | Metal Territory

Vision Divine return with A Clockwork Reverie, a record that confirms why they’ve been considered among Italy’s top power/prog names for decades. With nearly thirty years of activity, the band has built a clear musical identity, and here they present it again with confidence, technique and melody.

The album opens with a short spoken‑word intro and goes straight into the title track, which shifts tempo three times before the first verse even starts. The big, multi-layered choruses, the fast kicks and the constant transitions immediately show that the band is in form. “18 (It Feels Like Heaven)” slows things down and brings a more AOR aesthetic, with clean guitars, a melodic lead and a chorus that stays in your head from the first listen. Michele Luppi’s voice is impressive: clear, versatile and full of emotion, with a quality that stands out from many modern power singers.

“Andromeda” returns to the more classic power metal style, with heavy riffs, fast tempo and one of the record’s most demanding keyboard/guitar duels. The technique is there, but never at the expense of melody — something that always characterizes Vision Divine.

The second half of the album includes three re-recordings from the band’s older records. The new renditions don’t change the structure, but the modern production gives new life to tracks already considered classics by the fans. This choice also works as a bridge for new listeners who want to discover the older discography.

A Clockwork Reverie is technical, melodic and full of energy, without falling into the trap of excess. The band shows that returning to an old composition can indeed bring freshness, not just nostalgia. Although the record is relatively short, it has no weak moments and maintains a consistently high level.

Vision Divine remain firmly at the top of the Italian power metal scene — and this record proves it without any doubt.

Final score: 7.5/10
