Thætas return with The Irredeemable Age, an album that dives deep into the distortion, chaos and technical violence of modern brutal death metal. The band from New York continues the path begun with Shrines to Absurdity, but this time chooses a more organic, less “tweaked” approach, without losing its avant‑garde identity.

The album consists of short, three‑minute tracks that melt, twist and collapse amid constant shifts of tempo and mood. “Dhukha” opens the record with chugs, chaotic leads and a doom‑heavy ending that immediately shows the band’s new direction.

“Summers of Hate” continues with a more direct brutal death approach, full of spasmodic changes and riffs that strike like hammers.

“The End of History” brings back pinch harmonics and a more traditional brutal death structure, with a sense of constant destabilisation that keeps the track tense.

“For Hope the Devoid” is one of the most chaotic moments of the record, with constant transformations and a sense of total decomposition.

The title track “The Irredeemable Age” is the longest composition of the album and clearly shows the influence of From Wisdom to Hate — technical, heavy, but with moments that break away from the hammering and create a more atmospheric, almost hypnotic dimension.

“Stretched Paradox” balances between deathgrind and avant‑brutal, with riffs that seem to melt in front of you and a sense of constant destabilisation.

“Daytime Lantern” continues the journey toward the more “crooked” part of the record, with riffs that melt and rebuild within seconds.

“Pillars ov Fault” adds a more grind‑drenched energy, with constant bursts and riffs that strike without pause.

“Digital Locusts” closes in a cyclical, odd‑brutal way that ties in perfectly with the album’s opening, completing a journey full of distortion, technical violence and avant‑garde brutal death aesthetic.

Thætas never abandon their brutal death foundation — the slam element, deathgrind and technical distortion are always present. But here there’s a more natural flow, less “showing off” and more emphasis on cohesion. The result is an album that balances between the surreal and the ruthless, a work that remains violent but not anarchic, technical but not cold.
