“Ceiba” keeps the hooky character of the debut but pushes into more intricate structures. The opening comes with the short “Asunder,” before “Ashes” charges in with a catchy chorus, where keyboardist Diego Tejeida and guitarist Eric Gillette trade solos. “Beyond the Voice” follows in a more epic register and gives singer Fredrik Klemp room to breathe.
At the record’s more progressive moments, “Ceased to Be” gets a rich performance from Klemp, hard-hitting drums from Simen Sandnes and fine synth passages from Tejeida. “Casting Stone” rides a guitar riff and shifts into a more djenty tone, closing on one of the album’s biggest crescendos. “See Myself” goes heavier, with filtered vocals and an extended solo, and there are moments here that fans of progressive metal will recognise instantly.
A standout is “Alone,” where Gillette sings alongside Klemp and the two voices lock together over a melodic guitar solo line, with choir and bells in the outro. “As Long As We Last” sets the tone for the finale. Miguel Pereira fills out the line-up on bass, and the album clocks in at 66 minutes.
