Greg Kubacki, guitarist of Car Bomb, has had his own instrumental project for a while now, Sun Guts. Their second album, «Supervoid», came out on September 4, 2026 on Church Road Records, a few months after the debut «Kilonova» — twelve tracks, 34 minutes, mathcore and djent that never sit still.
Country: USA (New York)
Genre: Djent, Mathcore, Progressive Metal (instrumental)
For fans of: Car Bomb, Meshuggah, Frontierer, Dillinger Escape Plan
The album
It’s the work of one person: Kubacki writes and plays everything, with the mixing done together with Johann Meyer. The cover is by Stephen Kasner and the release comes out on Church Road Records. The sound has no vocals anywhere — only guitars, rhythms and a whole arsenal of effects, with the tracks changing speed and weight within seconds.

Our take
Here there’s nothing that follows the song format. Kubacki’s riffs play with time, the drums break the flow and the ring modulation passages turn the guitar into something that doesn’t sound like a guitar. When everything locks in — as on «Supervoid», «Redactor» and «Serpent 36» — the album grabs you by the throat. The thing is that the experiment goes on too long: quite a few tracks feel more like a display of sounds than like music, and across the 34 minutes the intensity tires you out before the album ends. The acoustic breaks («Angels in the Iron», «After You») and the quiet moment on the title track give breaths you’d wish lasted longer.
The album’s strongest points: «Supervoid», «Redactor» and «Serpent 36».
