Sněť are a death metal band from Prague, formed in 2018 by people who had previously played in acts on the local crust, metalpunk and grindcore scenes. Their goal was always the rotten, old-school death metal sound, with influences from bands like Autopsy and early 90s Carcass. After their debut “Mokvání v okovech” (2021) and two splits, they released their second album, “V bažinách vědomí”.
The record is denser and more complete than their debut: more riffs, deeper vocals and cleaner production, without losing its raw character. It opens with “Tíha světů”, which immediately shows the level of the work, while “Kladivo ve tmě” has heavy grooves that take your breath away. The atmosphere is dark and almost dreamlike, with Czech lyrics that add to the mystery.
Among the ten tracks, “Apokalyptický smaragd budoucí doby” stands out, with its sense of existential panic, along with “Nekončící koloběh snění a probouzení”, which also has spoken parts, and “Jako každý”, with its intense paranoid mood. “Nature” is the simplest track, with repetitive riffs and a strong finish.
“V bažinách vědomí” is a record that takes many listens to get used to, but each time it reveals something new. Sněť took everything good they had on the first album and pushed it one step further, making a dark, atmospheric death metal album with a strong recommendation from Mystification Zine.
