There are some moments when objectivity goes out the window. When you get your hands on the new work from Sense of Fear, especially if you’re a local and have followed them for years, you put on the fan’s t-shirt straight away . So, let’s be honest: “Infernal Decay” isn’t just a record, it’s the statement of a band that knows how to honor its roots and give you goosebumps. Let’s go through the epic track by track:
1. The record opens epically with the instrumental intro “Infernal Decay”. It’s the track that heralds the storm. Personally, I already see it as the ideal opener for their upcoming shows – the ultimate introduction to what will follow from here on.
2. We move on to “Cerberus”. Here we’re talking worship. A track you listen to again and again, reminding you why you love metal. The solos “embroidery” and the big voice of Ilias Kytidis is Exceptional, There’s no other word.
3. Next comes “Empathy to Darkness”, which shows the great continuity this band has with its previous record. They know exactly what they’re doing, they stand firmly on their feet and know what their musical DNA is.
4. the Conflict Of Interest If you want to explain to someone what true heavy metal means, this is the track you put on. Sharp as a blade, without Needless Fanfare . 4 minutes and 43 seconds that don’t let up for a single minute. from start to finish — and not out of habit, but because it doesn’t let you take a Breath.
5. Before the next blow, “Ethereal Requiem” serves as an instrumental of epic dimensions. It’s the moment to grab a quick beer and prepare for the havoc that’s coming.
6. And the havoc is called “Kiss of War”. Here we enter thrash-tinged paths with the classic clarity of Sense of Fear. A track born for the pit, for mosh pits and fists. Heads banging up and down and the voice joining with the mighty band.
7. Kleos (Glory), the sharp guitars and the melodic approach on the vocals steal the show, while the drum changes are a joy , at the 2 minute mark The Guitar solo Starts and It Really Kills.
8. Labyrinth (feat. Sakis Tolis) Here we have a huge moment on the record with the participation of the God of Greek Black Metal, Sakis Tolis. “Labyrinth” starts in the familiar Sense of Fear tempo, darkens and the moment “Sakaros” comes in for a second, it becomes a sight to behold. A powerful vocal duo, where epic Heavy meets the Dark warmth of Black Metal.
9. Next comes “Riddle of Shadows”, reaching nearly 8 minutes. Here Ilias “tortures” his vocal cords in the good sense, showing his enormous range. It’s a track that Takes You somewhere between the universe of Andromeda and Cassiopeia and Invites you to Solve the Riddle of Shadows.
10. The Shallow Journey of Your Soul We reach the biggest track on the record, a 10-minute epic. Rhythmic heavy, “loving” in its own metallic way. Close your eyes, listen to it as if there’s no one around you and let it speak to your soul. As I said, I can’t be objective – this record has everything: Heavy, Epic, Thrash, with no compromise on creativity.
11. And just when you say “what else can happen?”, “Retaliation” comes and levels you. Speed and dry “thrash”, pure worship. As I was listening to the record, I was Lying Down As It Came like a demon into my ears ,I Think the Neighbor Downstairs Is Still Banging the Ceiling with the Broomstick.
Verdict: Sense of Fear have returned and “Infernal Decay” is the best proof that metal in Northern Greece is more alive than ever.
