Savatage: 39 χρόνια από το «Hall of the Mountain King» | Metal Territory
29/09/2026
On September 28, 1987 Savatage released “Hall of the Mountain King”, the album that Jon Oliva himself has called the best and most important of their career. Thirty-nine years later, the album still stands tall, as one of the strongest heavy metal chapters of the ’80s.
The album came after the failed “Fight for the Rock” and the band needed a work that would put them back on the map. They managed it with an album built on a dark, fantastical atmosphere and on the perfected version of their original sound. The power elements are everywhere, but for the first time progressive influences also come in — the ones that would mark the band’s following releases.
The production was by Paul O’Neill, who is credited with one of the best sounds of the era. The tracks have variety in structure, tempos that constantly change and loud, clean, atmospheric riffs, while Jon Oliva on vocals is at his best and fits the songs as never before. The reviews were excellent and the audience’s reception very warm, with the result that it is considered one of the most important albums of the genre and has a place in every serious record collection.
