Greta Van Fleet have released “Tear It Down”, the third song from “Palace For The People”. The single came out on 17 September 2026 via Republic Records and the album follows on 9 October.
The track is built on a heavy central riff and lyrics about uncertainty and the cycle of building and collapsing: Josh Kiszka asks what you do when things overwhelm you, and the chorus supplies the answer itself. It follows “Play Your Games” and “Saw You Stand”.
The record was written and recorded in spring 2026 in an isolated cabin in Tennessee, after the band came off the road entirely. Production was handled by the band together with Mike Elizondo, who has worked with Turnstile, Eminem and Fiona Apple — their first collaboration, since “Starcatcher” had been handled by Dave Cobb. The sessions were deliberately free of tours, press or other commitments, drawing on half-finished demos and part-written songs, as well as pieces written on the spot.
The road to the album had rattled their fans. A message with the phrase “Thanks for the wild ride” on the band’s channels was read by many as a farewell, and the debate over whether Greta Van Fleet still existed lasted until May, when “Play Your Games” appeared.
The album title comes from a London venue. In 2022 the band headlined Alexandra Palace and, as they tell it, a friend explained the building’s origin to them: a Victorian hall that, they were told, was originally called “The Palace Of The People” and was built not for royalty or the aristocracy but to give ordinary people a place to escape to. Bassist and pianist Sam Kiszka said the answer for its modern equivalent came from the fans: “I can’t tell you how many have told me: this is my best friend, we met at your music — and we realised that music is our palace.”
“As much as it is a Greta Van Fleet album and a rock and roll album at its core, at its heart it is a very modern album,” said guitarist Jake Kiszka. Josh Kiszka dwelt on the time away from the stage: “We love each other as much as ever, if not more, because we spend quality time together away from the road. We have become closer and we have more to say than ever.” Drummer Danny Wagner put it more simply: “The moment the four of us get into a room with a shared purpose to create, few things can stop us.”
