Fantom Blood from Kozani present Atonement, a debut that shows Western Macedonia has a lot to give to heavy sound.
The release came out via Askio Productions, a label that actively supports heavy sound and helps bands like Fantom Blood bring out the character and weight of their music.
The album moves through heavy riffs, slow tempos and a dark atmosphere that pulls you in from the first minute. “Lucid Fire” opens strong, putting the listener in the band’s mood. “Morbid Call” has that groove that makes you nod your head back and forth without realizing it, while “Blood” stands out for its faster approach — personally, as Kostas, I particularly liked that speed.
“Septic Eyes” shows the album’s darkest character, with a steady tempo and a heaviness that never strays from the style. The guys play sludge/doom and they do it consistently: slow, heavy, full of intensity and atmosphere. For those who love this genre, Atonement has things to give — and with personality, too.
Fantom Blood show they have a clear identity and can evolve even further. Atonement is a very solid first statement from a band that has a lot to say in the Greek heavy sound.
