War Against Ourselves is a record that makes its theme clear from the title alone: the battle with our own self. Demidead use metal as a battlefield to capture psychological erosion, inner conflict and the dark paths of human thought.
The intro “The Dawn of Our War” works as a warning before the storm. A speech full of intensity, like the last words before a battle you can’t avoid. From there on, the record doesn’t let a second go to waste.
“Revelation Within” opens with heavy, sturdy thrash riffing and groove that hits straight in the chest. The band holds nothing back — it attacks with speed, power and absolute confidence. “Everything Burns” continues in the same vein, with more intense groove and details that create a sense of constant unease.
“Rorschach Test” brings a more melodic side, without losing the aggression. The melodic lines work as a counterweight to the weight of the riffs, giving the track a cathartic dimension. “52 Rise” introduces hardcore elements that mesh perfectly with the thrash backdrop, creating one of the most “in your face” moments of the record.
“Incarnation of Death” stands out with its massive bass, while the title track “War Against Ourselves” works as a summary of the album’s most hardcore side. These tracks are among the strongest on the record, with energy that leaves no room to breathe.
On “Pollution Eden” Demidead experiment with death metal influences, combining a thrash core with a melodic death metal character. The result is one of the most dynamic and balanced tracks on the record. “Only One Thing” brings a more dramatic and progressive style, while the closing with “When My Demons Overcome” gives a more emotional, almost post‑metal dimension, with melodies that leave their mark.
War Against Ourselves is a record full of intensity, weight and honesty. Demidead manage to turn inner conflict into music that strikes straight at the emotion. An album that doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is: raw, powerful and deeply human.
