Cyclopic are a new multinational Death Metal band formed in 2025 and they make their debut with “Flesh of Chaos”. From the first minutes you understand that here we have OSDM with plenty of groove, a dirty sound and riffs that demand headbanging.
The guitars go from heavy power chords and tremolo to palm-muted chugs and more thrashy passages. The bass can be heard working underneath, while the drums don’t hold back, with blast beats and double hits constantly raising the intensity.
There is also plenty of d-beat feeling in places, but Cyclopic’s main weapon is the riffs. They have many good ones, without trying to make things overly complicated.
“Abyssal Hordes” is my pick from the record. It starts with a very strong groove that unfortunately doesn’t last long, before the guitars attack with tremolo and blast beats. Fortunately the opening riff returns in the chorus and with it come darker harmonies.
Then more doom passages appear that bring a bit of Witch Vomit to mind, while there are also melodic harmonies that make the track even stronger.
The same mood continues throughout “Flesh of Chaos”. Pick slides, tremolos, heavy chugs, some breakdowns and more dark diminished passages are scattered across the songs, while the solos move mainly between shredding and more atmospheric moments.
What I like most is that the record never forgets its main goal: to be fun and make you bang your head. Cyclopic don’t try to reinvent Death Metal. They take OSDM, fill it with groove and dirty riffs and do it with plenty of appetite.
