Alissa White-Gluz wastes no time building momentum with her new project, BLUE MEDUSA . Far from being just a release that will follow, “Flying Monkey” arrives as an explosive, dark, multi-layered and emotionally charged statement that further establishes BLUE MEDUSA as one of the most interesting new names in modern heavy music.

Written as a strongly multi-layered piece of symbolic self-expression, “Flying Monkey” is full of hidden meanings, psychological allegory and double meanings woven both throughout the song and its visual counterpart. According to the band, every creative detail — from wardrobe choices and props to the color palette, even the debris swept through the air — was deliberately designed by White-Gluz to reflect the deeper themes embedded in the song’s lyrics and narrative.

Musically, the track highlights the individual strengths and collaborative chemistry within BLUE MEDUSA . The song’s orchestration was composed by guitarist Dani Sophia , who shared her picture of the creative process behind the track: “The ‘Flying Monkey’ was written in that really liminal space, that waiting room between chapters of my life, and the melodies reflect the themes of the nightmares I was having at that time. Wherever I was, I kept hearing an out-of-tune music box playing in the background…

White-Gluz , who was involved in the production and orchestration of the track while also writing the lyrics and vocal melodies, added: “The ‘Flying Monkey’ is exactly the kind of music I want to make. I’m so inspired by Dani and Alyssa . This BLUE MEDUSA album is almost like writing my memoirs and I have loved every aspect of creating it”.

Meanwhile, guitarist Alyssa Day — who previously composed the orchestration for the band’s debut single , “Checkmate” , — offers one of the song’s standout moments with a dynamic guitar solo. Reflecting on her contribution, she said: “The bridge section of ‘Flying Monkey’ gave me a fun space to step outside my usual harmonic comfort zone and play with some scales and sequences that I don’t always try to find. It turned into this quirky, bold, techy little solo that I really love playing. We had a great time at the video shoot too, and I’m really excited that everyone will finally see and hear it”.

BLUE MEDUSA  officially appeared last March, making their debut with the single  “Checkmate”  and with a line-up that includes  Alyssa Day ,  Dani Sophia and  Alicia Vigil , with  Delaney Jaster  playing live drums. The project comes after the release of  White-Gluz‘s solo track  “The Room Where She Died”,  which came out a few hours after a major turning point in her career.

That turning point came on November 23, 2025, when  ARCH ENEMY  announced that they had parted ways with  White-Gluz , closing an important chapter, while at the same time opening the door to what is now becoming one of the most interesting new ventures in modern metal.
