Black Label Society have released the video from the first time they played “Ozzy’s Song” live, Zakk Wylde‘s tribute track to the man who gave him his career.
The footage was shot on March 27 at The Sylvee in Madison, Wisconsin, the same day the band released its twelfth album, “Engines Of Demolition”, via MNRK Heavy. That concert was streamed for free through Veeps and the official music video for the track also premiered then, while the new material is the live performance.
Wylde has said the music was written first and the lyrics much later. Speaking to Sao Paulo station “89 FM A Radio Rock”, he explained they had been working on the album for almost four years and had collected many tracks, without having found a theme for the lyrics. After Ozzy Osbourne’s funeral last summer, he went home and took a break from the shows with the reunited Pantera: he sat in a small library room, put on headphones around one in the morning, looked at a book about Ozzy and wrote the lyrics. In a question he took at HMV in London, on January 28, he had said the music was ready and he was only missing the theme.
