Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton has made clear that his remark about no newer band having directly copied the group’s sound was simply an observation and not a complaint.

Morton had originally made that comment in an interview with BangerTV. When he was asked to elaborate, speaking to Australia’s Heavy (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), he explained his thinking: he finds it strange that he does not hear at least one successful version of the Lamb of God character in newer acts.

The comparison with other names, he says, comes up on its own. Killswitch Engage enjoyed great success and immediately twenty bands appeared that sounded like them, while Gojira too are constantly cited by new bands. With Lamb of God nothing of the sort happens. He made clear, though, that this is neither a dig nor a criticism, and that he does not hope for someone to do it. He does acknowledge that they have influenced quite a few newer acts, since the bands themselves tell him so.

Asked also about the fact that the group felt no need to follow any trend on their latest album, «Into Oblivion», he replied that it comes naturally. He feels no need to imitate what Knocked Loose or Spiritbox are doing, even though he considers them great bands. He is 53 years old and they have been doing this job for almost 30 years, so there is no point chasing whatever the current trend is.

«Into Oblivion» was released on 13 March 2026 via Century Media and Epic Records. The production was handled by Josh Wilbur, the record entered the Billboard 200 at No. 21, and it had been preceded by the singles «Sepsis», «Parasocial Christ», the title track and «Blunt Force Blues».

Lamb of God formed in Richmond, Virginia in the mid-1990s, initially under the name Burn The Priest. The line-up is Morton, singer Randy Blythe, guitarist Willie Adler, bassist John Campbell and drummer Art Cruz.
