Astriferous are among those bands that have understood exactly what old school death metal means. Filth, darkness, technique that isn’t for show but for atmosphere, and riffs that seem to come out of an underground labyrinth. Atavistic Unraveling is heavier, gnarlier and more “sick” than their debut — and that suits them very well.
“Carriers of the Curse” opens the album with a death metal blow that recalls old Finland: thick riffs, mid‑tempo rot and sudden changes that throw you off balance.
“The Floating Catacombs” is one of the most distinctive tracks. It has that Nocturnus‑style death metal with synths that come in discreetly and give a more “cosmic” feel. The riffing is clearly Morbid Angel school, but gnarlier, more twisted.
“Dissolution of Eternity” brings the band’s most dissonant side. Slow, heavy, with guitars that grind against each other like rusty metals. It’s a track that builds atmosphere and shows how well they handle the “dark” element.
“Proto Embryo (The Third Tribulation)” steps up the speed and brings Adramelech and Abhorrence to mind. Fast, technical, but always with that heavy, muddy feeling that Astriferous have.
“Arcane Demonomania” is one of the most direct tracks on the album. It has thrash‑death energy, but with a darker approach. The riffing is sharp and the tempo changes keep the track constantly in motion.

“Mnemonic Phenomena” works as a preparation for the big closing. More mid‑tempo, more atmospheric, with guitars that open up space and build tension.
“Resonance Cascade” closes the album with over 8 minutes of doom‑death collapse. Slow, heavy, with riffs that seem to melt over you. It’s one of those tracks that show the band doesn’t just play old school — it lives it.
