The Swedish prog metallers SOEN present the third single “Discordia” from their upcoming studio album “Reliance”, which will be released on January 16, 2026 via Silver Lining Music. The track comes with an official video and gives yet another side of the record, after “Primal” and “Mercenary”.
What “Discordia” is
“Discordia” is a song built on the tension between the need for human contact and the tendency toward isolation. SOEN play with darker textures, letting the track move from introverted, almost silent passages to bursts of intensity. According to what Martin Lopez has said, the track came out of the band’s attempt to push its sound into darker, emotionally charged paths, capturing the fall from self-protection toward alienation. Joel Ekelöf has stressed that the lyrics and the atmosphere revolve around this inner conflict: we want to connect, but at the same time we build walls so we don’t get hurt.
Sound & atmosphere
In “Discordia”, SOEN continue their familiar blend of progressive metal with strong melody and heavy, modern production. The guitars build a dark backdrop, the drums keep a steady but dynamic pulse and Ekelöf’s vocals move between calm, almost whispered lines and peaks that “open up” the track emotionally. The result is a song that relies not only on power, but also on atmosphere: at times suffocating, at times redemptive.

“Reliance” is SOEN’s seventh studio album and is released on January 16, 2026 by Silver Lining Music. The record was recorded, mixed and produced by Alexander Backlund at Fascination Street Studios, while the mastering has been done by Tony Lindgren. Why you should listen to it
“Discordia” is ideal for those who want something more than a simple single. If you’re into prog metal with weight, melody and an emphasis on emotion, this track clearly shows where “Reliance” is heading. This is not a display of technique, but a song that stands firmly on the clash between light and darkness, both musically and lyrically.
