Forging a heavy, melodic and atmospheric sound, FIMBUL WINTER honor the legacy of their death metal foundations, producing music that feels familiar yet modern in its approach. “Crowned In Ash” is the latest release from FIMBUL WINTER after their debut EP What Once Was from 2025 .
With a lineup made up of three former members of AMON AMARTH and completed by Clint Williams , FIMBUL WINTER begin a larger exploration and development of melodic death metal. Drawing on their knowledge and experience in AMON AMARTH and further extending their artistic boundaries, FIMBUL WINTER bring power, energy and intensity to all their sonic propositions.
“Crowned In Ash” emerges from the flames into a captivating soundscape enriched with interesting melodic lead notes. The dynamic rhythms prevail, pushing the track’s momentum forward, while the guitars continue to weave into the orchestral layers and Clint Williams‘ monstrous vocals are unleashed on top.

The band states: “There was never a question of how we should sound, we’ve been shaping this sound/genre for decades, this is in our DNA”.
A compelling force prevails in the choruses of “Crowned In Ash” . The fast pace reduces the intensity, allowing the progressions and the vocal performance to land with a deafening impact. FIMBUL WINTER make sure the track’s main riff remains exciting and steady throughout, while at the same time developing a surrounding, shifting dynamic across the whole musical composition.
The drums and guitars on “Crowned In Ash” were recorded at Studio Fluff Vasteras with engineer Andreas Moren, while the vocals were recorded at Witching Hour Audio and engineered by Shaun Farrugia . Risa Andersson contributed bass performance on the single and the mixing and mastering were completed by Marko Tervonen at Studio-MT . Consisting of three former members of AMON AMARTH , including founding members Niko Kaukinen and Anders Biazzi , FIMBUL WINTER seek to redefine melodic death metal. Based in Stockholm, Sweden and Melbourne, Australia, FIMBUL WINTER formed in 2023 building on their roots and the members’ legacy in Swedish death metal.
FIMBUL WINTER started from a spontaneous reunion at which they performed AMON AMARTH‘s 1994 demo titled The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter . The immediate connection between the musicians sparked the desire to create something new that captures the essence of Swedish death metal in a renewed style, clean and modern, without having been processed at its expense. 2025 brought that vision to life with the release of the ensemble’s first EP, What Once Was.
The new single release, “Crowned In Ash”, marks the band’s continuing journey. FIMBUL WINTER advance their compositional creativity, while at the same time trying to remain truly authentic to a sound they themselves helped create.
