Yes, Thrash Metal is still alive, with this full-of-personality ” Demonic Assault“ from newcomers Savage Mania , whose members were merely projects in the 1980s, the golden era of Thrash Metal. This is the kind of thing that makes Metal music so wonderful and appreciated.
To say that ” Demonic Assault” is a trip back in time is somewhat redundant, as the cover art and the album title already do that. But that’s its charm, if you know what I mean. It’s the kind of album that sweats. Echoes of the good old past come from everywhere in the tracks, yet some of them are easier to name as influence like ” Remorse “ which refers directly to the era of Girschool‘s ” Demolition Boys” – believe it or not. I wonder why a great band like Girschool doesn’t get all the recognition they deserve. The guitars are pure mastery from Kelly Johnson. Add to this the incredible speed the tracks reach like ” Storm Of Steel “ just to remind us that bands of the time were trying to defy the speed of light. ” Fasttrack “ has not only the speed, but also the grit of Hardcore which were the roots of Thrash metal and all Extreme Metal in general.
An interesting fact about Savage Mania is that they were not only inspired by bands like Morgana Lefay , but are actually their descendants, as singer Charles Rytkönen and bassist Fredrik Lundberg are the fathers of Oliver Rytkönen and Viktor Lundberg. Like father, like son. The legacy of Metal music can’t only be heard in the music.
If you still like raw and intense Thrash Metal music, ” Demonic Assault” is made especially for you.
