On their new work, Godthrymm maintain their heavy, traditional Doom Metal character, but add new, atmospheric elements, such as female vocals, piano and acoustic guitars, while also hosting Aaron Stainthorpe of My Dying Bride on the track “Endure My Skin”.

  2. Truth In My Own
  3. The Sun Never Fell
  4. Endure My Skin (feat. Aaron Stainthorpe)
  5. Jewels
  6. Hope Is Eternal

REVIEW : To be completely honest, I’m not the biggest fan of Doom Metal. Many times I find it a bit tiring, mainly because several bands think there’s a specific, rigid formula – that eternal Black Sabbath aesthetic – which they reproduce over and over until it’s sickening. The great thing about Godthrymm’s “Projection”, though, is that while they don’t entirely avoid that formula, they know how to adapt it to their own measure. Take “The Sun Never Fell” for example: within its 9+ minutes it passes through metal ballad elements, picks up the pace slightly and then dives into absolute Doom atmosphere. They know how to hold the core of the sound, but add their own colors, with huge success.

What really makes the album worth it is the addition of elements that doom bands rarely remember. The female vocals on “Jewels”, the clean guitars, the piano… all of these “bend” the rules of the genre a little, while keeping its familiar spirit alive. On the other hand, tracks like “Endure My Skin” hold the foundations of Doom in a highly moving way and prove that the principles of the idiom are alive and well. Overall, it’s an album that bears Godthrymm’s musical signature far and wide and closes their trilogy ideally. Let’s wait and see what else they have in store for us.
