Xenosis return with their fifth full-length album, titled “Hermetic Transmutation”, out on June 5 via Transcending Obscurity Records. The band delivers an extreme, unconventional work that defies traditional structures. The album is a chaotic but masterfully structured concoction of Modern Technical Death Metal, enriched with strong elements of Free Jazz, Progressive Rock and extreme experimentation, aiming to test the limits and endurance of the listener.

REVIEW : The word “cacophony” is usually defined as a harsh, discordant and chaotic mixture of sounds that “scrapes” the ear. For the enemies of heavy music, all of metal is a cacophony. We metalheads, however, know that sometimes this “cacophony” is exactly what we crave. That exact word stuck in my mind the moment I hit play on Xenosis’ “Hermetic Transmutation”.
The record is a violent assault on your comfort zone. It won’t wake any “warm”, familiar musical memory in you. It is a technical, death metal chaos grafted onto free jazz and prog madness. Only on “Spore Whore” will you perhaps feel for a moment that you’re on familiar ground, while “Rapid Metamorphosis” throws you a little “bait” with some more standard death metal riffs, before plunging you back into paranoia with some otherworldly, clean guitars. The thing with Xenosis is that they don’t just use dissonance as “seasoning” here and there. Entire tracks of theirs are built on it. Their aggression stems not only from how heavy the riffs or the drums are, but from the very (sick) way they structure their compositions.
Let me warn you: if you’re one of those fans who drink water only in the name of the classics and orthodox metal, stay away. “Hermetic Transmutation” was written for the “sick” ears of the underground who love to watch the limits of music being stretched. Xenosis push those limits… very, very far.
