EL appear with The Angelarium, a debut that stands firmly in the late-00s technical deathcore/tech-death aesthetic, with themes around angelic forms, human madness and divine insanity. The album is 32 minutes of continuous attack: staccato riffs, machine-gun drums, technical phrases that change direction every few seconds and vocals that move from growls to shrieks and bree-style bursts.
From the first second of “The Elestial One”, the band leaves no room to breathe. James “Jazzy” Boff writes riffs like a manic scribe trying to translate a divine command: technical bends, grinding patterns, death metal hits and constant changes. The programmed drums work like a machine that never stops, building a continuous backdrop that pressures the listener.
The album strongly recalls The New Reign and Artifacts of Motion: fast, sharp, technical, with riffs that hit like mathematical equations. Tracks like “Rule I”, “Palindrome Isn’t Palindrome” and “Never Odd or Even” clearly show this direction. There is chaos too, though: the compositions are so dense that the structure often gets lost, which makes the album demanding and not always easy on a first listen.
Although their technique is impressive, the production and the constant storm of riffs can tire out those who want clearer lines. The Angelarium is a record that reveals details through repeated listens, and its short length helps it not become excessively heavy.
For those who love this specific style — Born of Osiris of the The New Reign era, Veil of Maya of the The Common Man’s Collapse era — EL deliver a strong debut with huge potential. They’re not yet «the new revelation», but they have all the elements to evolve into something very big.
