Entropist from Denver needed ten years to complete The Vision. From distance, life changes and COVID, to the final production, the album carries that whole journey: endurance, loneliness, transcendence. The band itself describes it as “a powerful and visionary progressive metal odyssey” — and the music confirms it.
The Vision is an album that unites all the branches of prog: djent, prog‑death, atmospheric prog, clean melodies, technical riffs and big emotional outbursts. “I Hunger” hits with Meshuggah‑isms, downtuned guitars and blackened screams that provide intensity. Solomon Smith and Will Vinson write technical lines that interweave, while Matt Gleason holds the rhythmic foundation with solid drumming.
“The Ritual” shows the band’s prog‑death side: technical riffs, thrash‑like drums and production by Jamie King (BTBAM, The Contortionist) that gives clarity and depth. “Intense Warmth” and “Revelation” share a pattern of serrated guitars and bass that play as if fighting the metronome — groove and aggression together.
For those who want melody, “Desert of Limbo” opens with clean guitars and clean vocals that recall Haken. “Creation” is the climax of the concept: big major chords, vocal lines that rise and a sense of victory within the darkness. Jeremy Smith delivers unique bass solos that stand out throughout the album.
The details are what make The Vision stand out: – transitions that don’t cut the flow, – glissandos and arpeggios that build atmosphere, – violin solo on “Devour Us”, – instrumental balanced on “The Wandering”, – breakdowns that don’t tire.
The Vision is an album full of ideas, technique, emotion and progressive thought. It doesn’t recycle prog forms — it renews them. It’s an album that will be loved by prog listeners who want something dense, but not tiring.
