Review
Liquified Decomposition come from Iowa with an album that hits straight at the heart of brutal death metal. Bloated In The Pond is full of filth, low tunings, monstrous gutturals and subject matter that mixes true crime with Twilight Zone‑style fiction, which gives the album a particular, almost cinematic sense of horror.
The riffs are heavy, deeply tuned and hit like hammers. The groove is continuous, but the band doesn’t stay only there: there are blast beats, fast tempo shifts and enough technical work to make the album stand out from classic “straight brutal death metal”. Liquified Decomposition have that characteristic “rotten” sound, but with details that show the compositions weren’t written in a hurry.
The vocals are pure monster‑style gutturals, deep, wet and constantly aggressive. It’s the voice you expect from brutal death metal, but with a particular theatricality that fits the concept. If someone tells you they’re hearing “the monster in the closet”, they’re probably listening to this record.
Thematically, the album is built on real crime cases and dark stories. This gives it character and makes each track feel like a small horror story. It would be interesting to learn which cases are hidden behind each song — and yes, an interview with the band to explain it would be nice.
Bloated In The Pond is an album that doesn’t leave your neck in peace. Whether you headbang, twirl or just nod your head, there’s no way you’ll stay still. “Vertical Tomb” is the record’s strongest moment, with riffs that lodge in the mind and an atmosphere that pulls you into the swamp of the title.
Brutal, technical, heavy and full of attitude — an album worth hearing if you love extreme sound.
