REVIEW | Metal Territory

Dead Sleep return with Repulsion, an EP release that makes it clear the band has stripped its sound down to the bone. Now a trio, they present a heavier, darker and dirtier version of their thrash, with fierce punk energy and blackened influences that give the material an almost diabolical atmosphere.

The music is raw, primitive and with no inclination toward “beautification”. The riffs are downtuned, cyclical and heavy, with a groove that hits like a hammer. The guitars avoid unnecessary technicality and move in an old‑school pattern that recalls early extreme metal. The production is deliberately dirty and unrefined, letting every hit pass through unfiltered.

Anna Wagner delivers one of the most intense vocal performances of the year. Her voice is full of rage, ferocity and pure defiance, fitting perfectly with the EP’s themes. The lyrics revolve around personal and social revolt, with references to mythical and historical figures such as Lilith, building a narrative about female power and resistance against a world that fears strong women.

Repulsion is a dark, wild and truly instinctive release. It doesn’t try to be “beautiful” or technical — it’s pure violence, pure energy and a pure statement. “Repulsion” and “Bring Me The Head” best show what Dead Sleep can do in 2026: thrash with a blackened character, punk rage and an atmosphere that leaves no one indifferent.
