The listen
«Roede voor de Borst» stands out for its theatricality — something rare even by folk metal standards. The album begins with «Geestenmist» and builds a dramatic atmosphere moment by moment, with the choruses reinforcing the feeling. The band’s approach is distinctive: instead of cramming traditional instruments everywhere, it uses them sparingly, as on «Eendracht Maakt Macht», where flutes and violins come to the front.
The Dutch lyrics and the narrative mood are at the center, with the vocals and choruses driving the music more than the instruments. The result is an album that ties tradition to the modern folk metal scene, without ever losing its dramatic intensity.
