The 10 best albums of August 2026 | Metal Territory

The ten best albums of August 2026 according to Mystification Zine. The picks are personal and don’t follow trends: this month death metal dominates, with a few black touches and metalpunk, in a list that closes the first round of the year’s big releases.

1. Horrifier – Revelations of Gore

The Norwegian quartet delivers its second record: basement-level thrashing death with doom elements, in the school of the late 80s/early 90s. A thematic slasher story about a manic obsession with murder, which makes use of the death metal medium without wearing you out — one of the best old school death records coming out of Norway these days.

2. Fen – Elemental Part I: Mourning Earth

The atmospheric black metal trio from London returns with its eighth album, the first part of a two-part concept record. «Elemental Part I» marries their signature with a more energetic, virtuosic prog-black dynamism, looking ahead at the band’s 20 years.

3. Hulder – Verbolgen

The duo from Washington keeps evolving its pagan black metal, with the aesthetic of the mid-90s Norwegians and a distinct melodicism. Their third album is their most complete, with a strong “epic” seriousness and a proud march from the first track to the last.

4. Azatoth – Carnal Lust of Blasphemy

The Finns’ debut mixes deathgrind, old Finnish death and classic USDM into a perfectly tight death metal experience. As we wrote in our review, the record escapes the imitation of old templates.

5. Ninth Realm – Damnation’s Veil

The Maryland residents’ second album goes beyond their crossover/thrash base, with influences from black/death and classic heavy metal. For fans of Black Breath and Iron Age: thrash that cuts fast and builds a dark fantasy kingdom along the way.

6. Miscreance – Reminiscence

The Italians’ second LP matures their progressive death/technical thrash base toward a more experimental direction. It recalls Horrendous at first, but quickly becomes their own, with influences from Death, Atheist and Sadist — as our presentation wrote.

7. Gosudar – Egocidal Maze Descent

The Muscovites deliver a substantial three-track EP: unreal synth, technical violence and enraged ancient death, self-recorded and raw but huge in atmosphere. It will be interesting to see what they do on their second record.

8. Unholy Redeemer – Journey Beyond Death

The international death metal quartet presents a debut EP that already sounds album-ready: nightmarish, heavy-laden tracks with an oppressive atmosphere, where every musician leaves their mark without losing cohesion.

9. Thanatomass – The Rabid Dead

The Russian bestial death trio continues with a 20-minute EP where each track builds on the previous one: feral, otherworldly assaults and diabolical rhythms, with cleaner production than their previous record but the same raw, murderous sound.

10. Atomic Aggressor – The Occult Forces

The Chilean veterans needed thirty years for their debut — their second album came about a decade later. «The Occult Forces» is an unbroken barrage of riffs and snappy rhythmic turns, reintroducing them with more polished production without losing their authentic old school glory.
