Fluisteraars are among the most distinctive names of the Dutch black metal scene, active since 2009. “Jacht der Mysteriën” is their sixth full-length and finds the duo continuing the search for new horizons in atmospheric black metal — this time with a record recorded as a continuous live take, in a single pass, with producer and session bassist T. Cochrane.
Country: Netherlands
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal
For fans of: Drudkh, Yellow Eyes, Urfaust
The listen
The record consists of three tracks. “Grondeloos Donkere Bossen” opens with a psychedelic, synth-laden path through the dark, with wild vocals and a steady, rolling flow. “Condities der Afstraffing” picks up the pace and hides one of the album’s best moments around 2:42, with a melodic surge lifted by an intoxicating guitar synth. The closer “Zwarte Zomermaan” is the most otherworldly: two movements in steady succession, with the second half droning in a mournful, sky-gazing atmosphere.
Their sound has been compared at times to Cascadian black metal, Drudkh, Yellow Eyes and Urfaust — and “Jacht der Mysteriën” incorporates all of that into a personal, organic whole. The main entry point for a wider audience was “Bloem” (2020), followed by “Gegrepen Door de Geest der Zielsontluiking” (2021) and the trilogy “De Kronieken Van Het Verdwenen Kasteel,” which brought the band to where we find them today.
The warm atmosphere and the spacey warping of “Jacht der Mysteriën” make it more than just a save: it is an excellent addition to their discography, a noticeably different experience that advances their live approach. Even if the ambient finale doesn’t thrill everyone, the record is a strong, atmospheric ride — ideal for those who love the sound of Fen and the darker end of the genre.
