Dreadnought from Colorado return with their sixth record, «Wars of Spirit // Wards of Light», and continue the path they started charting years ago: from the more doom sound of the first records, with saxophones and flutes, to the post-black metal that «The Endless» established in 2022, always with folk influences within progressive structures.
Country: USA (Colorado)
Genre: Progressive metal / Post-black metal
For fans of: Myrkur, Messa, The Ocean
On the new album, the lineup has shrunk and on vocals there is a new balance: guitarist Ryan Sims adds male vocals, harsh and clean, opposite Kelly Schilling. The concept revolves around a war for the human soul waged by technology, and the synths and digital sounds convey it: the album has an almost electronic feel at some points, without losing its warmth.
What makes the difference with Dreadnought is the sense that each of their records wants to go somewhere new, instead of repeating a recipe that worked. Within forty minutes they build an entire sonic world, with dark climaxes, atmospheres that change abruptly and tracks that are not afraid to stretch out.
