Iron Maiden – Seventh Son of a Seventh Son | Metal Territory

The seventh album of Iron Maiden is one of those that changed the band’s sound. «Seventh Son of a Seventh Son» came out in 1988 and is a concept album: all the songs relate to one theme, which begins and ends with the same lyrics about the seven deadly sins, the devil and the seven desires.

The sound of the record is darker and more atmospheric than anything the band had done until then. The synthesizers play a bigger role and the songs are longer and more complex. «Moonchild» opens the record with a chilling atmosphere, while «Infinite Dreams» starts with beautiful melodic guitars and raises the intensity gradually.

The first five tracks of the record are considered by fans among the best the band ever wrote. «Can I Play with Madness» and «The Evil That Men Do» have some of Bruce Dickinson’s most catchy vocals, while the track that gives the record its title lasts nearly ten minutes and is among the best in Iron Maiden’s history.

The band also showed live how strong this material is, since «Infinite Dreams» was played at a historic appearance that we have also covered. «Seventh Son of a Seventh Son» is today considered one of the greatest albums of the genre, with a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 from Sputnikmusic and the label “classic”.
