The band was formed in 2020 by musicians who have passed through Malformed, Disguised Malignance and Krusifiointu. Their first demo (“Ruins of Humanity”, 2021) brought new blood to the Finnish death metal scene, while the EP “Ungodly Carnage” (2022) showed their sound: dark atmosphere, heavy riffs, punk elements and deep vocals. The new album continues and intensifies these traits.

AZATOTH‘s sound borrows from deathgrind, with vocals that shift pitch, fast blast beats and strange grooves. The tracks “Flooding Human Remains” and “Veins of Rotten Blood” are the clearest examples, while “Blasphemous Flesh” keeps the same energy. Overall, the record recalls Finnish death metal, with Carcass elements and a heavier Floridian approach.

The leads, the deep vocals and drummer Godvomit keep the pace intense throughout the record. Despite the “old” spirit, the band mixes old and new elements with attention to detail. Every song has something extra — a guitar line, keys or a shift — that keeps it interesting.

The first four tracks are strong, but the record finds its essence in the second half. “Sulfuric Paths to Agony” is more polished, while the closer “Putrid Altar of Eternal Decay”, with its tempo shifts and keyboard atmosphere, is among the best moments. The band shows it wants to give a bigger performance, without lapsing into boring repetition.

Unlike many modern “old school” outfits that lack consistent songwriting, AZATOTH have a clear direction. Carnal Lust of Blasphemy combines the surreal with the harsh, and it is a rare case of a debut that sounds so ready. A release worth paying attention to.
