“A New Disease Is Born” was released on March 12, 2007 via Lifeforce Records, produced by Jacob Hansen.
Country: Greece / Sweden
Genre: Melodic death metal
For fans of: In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Dead by April
The album was recorded with an almost brand-new line-up — only Marios Iliopoulos and Henric Carlsson remained from the previous period. Jimmie Strimell came in on vocals and Olof Mörck of Dragonland on guitar, while the video for “Scathing” was directed by Bob Katsionis. Shortly after, Strimell and drummer Alex Svenningson left to form Dead by April.
The sound became more compact and more modern, with clean vocals in places and simpler structures. “Spiral”, “Reconcile” and the title track stand out. The title did not come out of nowhere: the phrase “a new disease is born” appears in the lyrics of “Drug” from the previous album.
Our take
It is the most divisive moment in their catalogue, since some found it more conventional than the first two. It did, however, keep the band alive at a point when it had lost almost all of its members, and its songs still work live.
